Unless we are up in the air, or down under the sea, we’re
always looking at things from one perspective. And even though there is so much
to see, don’t you think it ever gets boring? In the movie the boys all take
turns standing on a desk, and looking at the classroom with a different
perspective than they have before. I did try this myself in my bedroom. And
yes, you do notice things you never have before.
But there is such a thing as empathy as well, which I
find to be something that goes hand in hand with this topic. We can see things
from various others points of view, and that can be taking on a new perspective
as well. Doing this is especially difficult if the person has an opinion on a
topic or something you don’t quite agree with, or if they’re not someone you
particularly like. But I dare you. I dare you to take on this challenge of
seeing something from another’s perspective today.

disagree with but others might find perfectly fine?

Hi Olivia - Excellent post! I loved that movie; really need to get it and watch it again. To answer your question -- I don't want to sound prudish, but many people seem to think it's perfectly fine to use the Lord's name in vain; I disagree with that. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a very inspirational movie ^^ I would disagree with it too.
DeletePerspective is such a great message! The world is made up of so many cliches and it gets really boring sometimes. Everyone has a perspective, but they have to learn to look at it from a unique way.
ReplyDeleteI know! Life can be so much more interesting this way :)
DeleteGreat post! Seeing things from someone else perspective (or "being in their shoes") is really important.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm nominating you for the Sisterhood of the World Blogger's Award!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my blog post for more detail and to see your questions: http://jennieelouisee.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/sisterhood-of-world-bloggers-award.html
I'd love to read your answers so tag me in your post! Jennie :)
Hmm... Something that I disagree with? I think that I disagree with the fact that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I'm weird, haha but I love looking at pretty covers and then choosing to read the book from there! That, and of course the summaries. :) Perspective is a must. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean! I used to do this less, but ever since I've started browsing through Netgalley and Edelweiss I realize I do it more than before, because there is just so much to choose from!
DeleteI agree with you that without empathy you can not gain a different perspective or appreciate it. Unfortunately most people think they are empathetic without knowing or acknowledging it's true meaning. That is why we will continue to live in a world full of chaos.
ReplyDeleteI would actually agree with this and wish it was something I thought to mention before. Sometimes people don't know whether they are really empathetic or not.
DeleteI disagree with people who eat with my mouth open. All y friends do it and I have never done it my life. I guess I can see that if you were brought up with eating with your mouth open, it is pretty difficult to switch because you are changing your eating pattern which you have used every day for years. I loved your example at the bottom because it is extremely difficult to see someone else's opinion in another perspective. It is a valuable lesson to learn and you showed easy ways, if possible, to do it. It was a bit short though and I would have loved some more. Perhaps a personal perspective experience.
ReplyDeleteOh sis, are you sure you have never done so yourself? I am sure I can think of a few times, hehe...
