So this post is supposed to be about trends for the Bloggers do it better challenge. I was at loss, and decided to do a trend in books! So I am going to take a genre, give you a book that is trending in that genre, and one I think you should read from it as well! I hope there is something in here for everyone.
Dystopian
Trend: Divergent by Veronica Roth is a book that has been attracting a lot of attention lately, what with a movie of it having recently been released. I love it myself, and think the movie is quite good. In fact, I have a movie review of it if you'd like to see. Well worth the reading time!

Dragons (this is so not a genre but whatever :P)
Trend: Eragon by Christopher Paolini is an old loved book, and I still have to read Inheritance! But really, although it is a pretty thick read, the dragons in it is wonderful and you really will get lost in a new world. I love these.
My suggestion: Serpahina by Rachel Hartman was something I read because it was sent to me by my trusted book adviser. She did not disappoint. At first I thought it was a rather slow beginning, but then I began to love it and the story just kept growing on it. I can't wait to read more, and I won't stop this series at all. I loved it as the plot slowly drew me in.
Historical Fiction
Trend: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is one that I had to read because of the hype and movie coming out. I was not disappointed either. It's told from a unique point of view and has some beautiful imagery and play on words there. Almost like it combines poetry and writing. I will have a review up soon!
My suggestion: Dissolution by C.J Sansom are mystery and action books. Quite thick, long reads, but wonderful all the same. What I love most about this series is as the stories progress, each mystery gets more complex and enjoying to read as they go on.

Tear Jerkers
Trend: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.
My Suggestion: A Child called It by Dave Pelzer made me break down. I am not going to lie, when I read it I didn't know it was an autobiography. As soon as I did though, I cried. I couldn't believe all that had happening in there was true! Please, read it and you'll understand.
Teen

My suggestion: Gone by Michael Grant and uh, Jellicoe Road by Melinda Marcetta. Why? Because they are both SO AWESOME they will literally BLOW your SOCKS off

Thanks for reading!

I love how you made this topic about books and I also love that you give your own suggestions that aren't necessarily on trend. I only read Divergent, but most of the books are on my to-read list.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I couldn't think of anything else to do! I hope you liked Divergent, and look forward to the future reads!
ReplyDeleteAwh, lots of my favourites in the 'trends' section, will definitely note down the other suggestions!

:) Glad you were able to find something!
DeleteI've only ever read Divergent, I've been meaning to read a couple of the others though! There's only one book that's ever made me cry, The Things We Did For Love by Natasha Farrant :')

I hope you liked Divergent! I haven't heard of that book before, but I will definitely take note of it :)
DeleteI featured Divergent in a recent post of mine as I just finished reading The Maze Runner series. Yesterday I read The Transfer a Divergent short story. I also loved The Fault in our stars and can't wait to see the movie. I agree with you on the characters but being a fictional story I can live with that.
ReplyDeleteOoh we have read a lot of the same books! I like The Maze Runner series too.
DeleteLove this post! So many great book suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to read the Book Thief. Seeing your reaction on Jellicoe Road, I probably will put that into my reading list too!
Ooh definitely! Go read Jellicoe Road :D And the Book Thief is really good as well :)
DeleteI haven't read any of the books on the list, but I love fa good history or historical fiction book.
ReplyDeleteYou should try some of them out!
DeleteDystopia is hot right now and Divergent is the best out there. Except for the third book. Didn't like how it ended.
ReplyDeleteYeah, lots of fans have a mixed feeling about that book. But I loved Divergent <3
DeleteGreat topic. Dystopian is very popular right now and it's probably my most read genre. I haven't read The House of Scorpion though so I may have to look for that one. I have all of the Inheritance Cycle books but have only read the first two, definitely need to hurry up and get to those as well.
ReplyDeleteI still have to read the last one in that cycle as well xD I think you might like House of Scorpian!
DeleteGreat post! I love how you did your trends on books. The way you did a trend and then a suggestion made it clear that your suggestions are things you wanted to become trends but just needed to get out there. There was only one major thing I was missing from your post. What the books were about! On the book thief you didn't even mention the war. I know you didn't want to go into detail on every book but it only takes four words: .... was about the war. And then you could put all that stuff about the movie and whatnot.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to put a brief snippet! But admittedly, perhaps I was too brief on some points... agh xD
