The movie is about a girl called Tracey and how she
dreams to dance on the Corny Collins show on television. She’s also had her eye
on Link, the lead male star for ages. When she finally gets her place, Amber
who is the leading female on the show faces some competition. Tracey also makes
some new friends, and realizes how unfair it is that “negroes” and “whites”
can’t dance on the same show. She wants to change that.
Although the movie had a slow beginning, with too many
songs after each other for my liking, once it started to reach its climax as
well as facing the segregation problems, I was hooked. The characters were
funny and interesting, and the acting from all the actors/actresses was
exceptionally well done.
Another thing I absolutely love about this film are the
costumes! The movie is set in the 60’s so you get lovely fluffy dresses… oh I
how I would love to own one of those! And the big hairdo’s which are stiff from
all the hairspray. The movie just captured in the setting and time perfectly.
Seeing as it’s a musical, there were plenty of songs! My
favourite ones are: Mama welcome to the 60’s, Ladies Choice, Run and Tell that
as well as the end song! I need to get the soundtrack of this film…

So, I have rewatched this musical countless times, and if
you’ve never seen it and don’t mind musicals … then you best go see this!
Buy it here!

Love that musical! Good review:)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this film. Embarrassingly, I have a few of the songs on my iPod, haha! Lovely little review here :') <3
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am hoping to buy a soundtrack sometime soon :D
DeleteOne of my absolute favorite movies, even if Zac Effron weren't in it ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah it is very good regardless ^.^
DeleteI haven't seen this one, but I don't watch many musicals, the songs are usually too often for me. Great review though Olivia
ReplyDeleteI guess musicals aren't something for everyone. There are plenty other movies too~
DeleteIts silly but a good movie.

DeleteBrilliant review! I love musicals and this is definitely one I really enjoy. I love the whole story and how it manages to deal with serious issues whilst still keeping it as a family friendly film.
ReplyDeleteI know! That's one of the things I love best about it, that it can be taken seriously but still be enjoyed.
DeleteOnce ... Upon ... A ... Time! Definitley! I'm sill contemplating which fairy tale character I would be (probably the ugly duckling!) I really liked this movie review, ltthough it was short and snappy, it still was described perfectly, not to detailed or too blunt. You still had quite a lot in there for a short movie review. It would've been cool if you'd been able to somehow match the names to the faces on the cover. All the faces have their own colour, maybe that would have worked?
ReplyDeleteNah, you'd be princess Tiana for sure. I can just see it!
Deletemy fave movie :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a really good one :)
DeleteI remember watching this when I was younger. It was pretty good. :)

Glad to know you think so ^^
DeleteOne of my favorite musicals. I watch it whenever I get the urge to sing along.
ReplyDeleteI do too! I just love this one :)
DeleteIf I could be in any TV show? Right now it'd be The Vampire Diaries, but that could change at any time! As per Hairspray, I have to say I am a bit obsessed. It may be odd for a guy to say that, but I love all things theatre. I have seen Hairspray on stage three different times and the movie more times than I can say. Everything from the casting to the choreography in this one was spot on in my opinion. I have the extended two disk soundtrack that showcases the songs that didn't make it into the film which are amazing! I have to say that this movie is pretty much just as great as the stage version, if not better. Plus Michelle Pfeiffer. WOW. Lol. Seriously, love this movie!
ReplyDeleteI think if we ever met in real life we would be awesome friends! I love this movie so much, and I can watch it plenty of times back to back. I have never seen it live though, and that is something I would really love to do!
DeleteI have never watched The Vampire Diaries because personally it doesn't seem like something I would like. But I am glad that you do like it :c
love this film loads, I think zac just looks so hot in this movie xoxox
ReplyDeleteThis film is definitely one of my favourites. I love it <3 And yes, yes he does.
