Hello J
(Review is without spoilers)

The story follows the Lightwoods as always, and also
introduces some new characters, like the Blackthorns and the Cairstairs. At
first I wasn’t sure if I liked these new characters being there because this is
the final book and it seemed like Clare had just wanted to add a side story.
But in the end I was grateful for it, because as always, in the end everything
really ties together. As I was saying before, the Lightwoods face the same
enemy as they have in the two books prior to this one – Sebastian, who is ready
to wreak havoc as he always is, and has new alliances which make him stronger
than ever.
I really loved reading this, loved to know how it all
ended. I will admit this book didn’t quite make it in comparison to all the
other ones. It was very good – don’t get me wrong; I was hooked from the very
first page. But it wasn’t as addicting, as terrifying or as satisfying as I
wanted it to be. But that’s just me being harsh and comparing.
My favourite part of the novel was the end. Regardless of
whether some vital characters are missing or not (hehe, you’ll have to read it
to find out), or if the ending was a happy or sad one, I loved seeing it all
come together and seeing the final words printed. You can just close the book
and breathe, realising that you’ve come on quite the journey since you started
book one, wondering if it was going to be as good as everyone says. There are
always good and bad sides to ending a series.

Olivia’s Question: How do you feel when you get to the
end of a series, or a really good book?

It's always bittersweet, because it's over. I prefer happy endings over sad ones, though I like to imagine what happens to the characters next rather than have the author spell it all out; and they had 2.5 kids...
ReplyDeleteHm, yes, I think bittersweet is the correct word to explain it ^.^ I don't like having to imagine too much, but having enough guidance to kind of know what happened to them in the end.
DeleteGreat to hear it was enjoyable, but sad that it wasn't quite everything that you'd hoped.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to finish this series but yeah when you end a series it's always really a bittersweet. You're happy you finally have the conclusion but then again you'll miss those people. I really hope you'll read The Infernal Devices soon which is even better in my opinion. Great review, Olivia :)
ReplyDeleteI will try and get around to them soon. I can't imagine them being even better, but then maybe I will be surprised ;)
DeleteGreat review, happy you ended up enjoying this one even if it wasn't as good as the other books. I fel sad when I get to the end of a series I love, it's bittersweet. I remember sobbing when HP was over because that was such a huge part of my childhood and it was a shock that it was all over. No more waiting up till midnight to go buy the next book.
ReplyDeleteI know, it really is sad! I have yet to read HP but I will try it soon :D
DeleteHappy you loved this one and the series. I just couldn't get into the first book that much so I never read anymore.
ReplyDeleteAww :( Well, not every book is for every person.
DeleteI always look back at the characters and see how they developed from the start, all the while, muttering comments like: 'He used to be so innocent'' or 'Why did she have to die?'' I like the thing your doing were you ask us a question at the end of each blog. Interacting with the audience is something you can't really do with a book or a poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I just want the commenters to know I do care about what they have to say as well.
DeleteDepending on how a book/series ends will determine how I feel about it, and usually if it's good I will be okay but if it's tragic or bad I will go raving about it to one of my friends!
ReplyDeleteI love the questions you leave at the bottom of your posts by the way :D
Haha I do much the same! Whether my friends have read the book or not :P
DeleteThank you ^^
