Hello everyone! I’ve been reading through all of Khaled
Hosseini’s books, and this is the final one that I needed to read. It’s called
‘A Thousand Splendid Suns.’ And let me tell you, anyone who is going to read
this better be prepared for a pretty emotional journey.

follows Mariam from when she is a little girl all through her life. The focus really comes in though, when Mariam is fifteen and sent to marry Rasheed, who is thirty years older than her. Later on, another main character, Laila joins the story. Again, you get to see her whole life. Because we see such a large span of what the characters have been through we get to see their happiest and saddest moments. We get to see they’ve grown and developed how they realized certain things about life. It makes you really connect with these two characters, because you’ve been through so much with them as you read.
There are so many messages you can take away from this
book. About wisdom, family, and at one point, even morals! This book had me
questioning whether this character was doing the right or wrong thing. This
book had me hoping for the characters, and feeling happy or depressed when it
did or didn’t work. I never knew what was going to happen next. But I did learn
so much, and it was a really touching story.
My favourite part of the novel? I didn’t have one. I
really really liked the ending. What I mean by that is the ending from each of
Laila’s and Miriam’s point of view. So when we last read through Miriam’s perspective
and the same for Laila’s. I think those were my favourite parts, and if you
read it you’ll see why ;)
Now that I’ve read three of them, I can safely say The
Kite Runner was my favourite novel by Khaled Hosseini. Check out my review here
and see why. But this book comes close
second, and it is a must read.

How funny is it that we both posted these at really similar times! I definitely preferred Kite Runner but I'm so glad I read this and will hopefully read the third at some point in the future! Glad you liked it! xx
ReplyDeleteYou reviewed this too? I will go check it out :)
DeleteI like how this book made you think. It sounds pretty good. I really want to read Kite Runner.
ReplyDeleteIt is! And you should :3
DeleteAhh, this book. Reading this book was a journey for me. Even the story of how I came to read this book is a funny one. The book is so emotional. I personally loved the character Laila and the love story between her and Tariq. The book teaches a lot. This will probably top over The Kite Runner because there are many stories that revolve around this for me :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to have a book you love so much and takes you on a journey. I am glad you learnt a lot from it ;)
DeleteI keep hearing so many amazing and wonderful things about this book, I really need to hurry up and get to it. I even own the book so I have no excuse not to have read it by now. I like that we get to see so much of the character's lives and really get to know them. Thanks for the great review :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is worth the time of reading it. No excuses, haha! No problem ;)
DeleteI like your book reviews. Very crisp and honest! Will definitely get a hold of this book.

You should do!
DeleteI absolutely loved The Kite Runner, but still haven't read this one. I will one of these days, I'm sure. Lovely review!
ReplyDeleteYou should go for it ;) Especially if you liked the other one.
DeleteThis one is on my shelf, but I haven't read it yet. The Kite Runner is a favorite of mine, and I'm sure I'll love this one too. Even though The Kite Runner is the Khaled Hosseini book I've read, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being my favorite of his out of the three. It would take a lot to be better than that book. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was a very good book and I felt like that when I started A Thousand Splendid Suns too. But it actually does come quite close!
DeleteI read this book years ago, but it still haunts me. It's the saddest book I've ever read! It's a beautiful read, anyhow. From all the three Hosseini's books, this one is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteHave you read his latest "And The Mountains Echoed" ?
It was a very sad and realistic book. Yes I have, but of his three it was my least favourite.
DeleteThis post was so touching! I really want to read the book now! I can tell it is an inspirational and emotional journey and the way you described it so beautifully. I know I haven't read kite runner or a thousand splendid suns but I think I will prefer a thousand splendid suns. It just seems like something I would enjoy. But this judgement is made purely from your posts so I'm not sure. I loved your summary and what you thought of it. I think the Khaled Hossinei books are a very beautiful collection of books.
ReplyDeleteThey really are, and you should definitely try them.... but perhaps when you are a little bit older because they really are more adult based books. But yes, when you're of age, read them as soon as possible!
Deletewoah... just stopped by on your posting about this book and it just eventually made me want to read it...
ReplyDeleteI really think you should! It's such an emotionally touching book and memorable. I am never going to forget it.
