Review: This
was a pretty good read, and one that was hard to rate. It was pretty good, but
it wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t horrible either. It was a quick read that I
enjoyed, with an interesting plot and a romance story that kept me turning
pages. This is a paranormal romance, and the paranormal aspect of things was
done very well.
We have the main character Callie who I really liked. She
was someone who didn’t want to stand idle while everything was going on around
her. Even though she was out of her depth she wanted to help, and held strong
for her friends and family. As well as that she was a swimmer, and I always
like seeing women doing sports in novels for some reason. Maybe because it
doesn’t happen too much. She develops a bit in this novel, from someone who is
bullied at school and keeps their head down to someone more confident, fiery
and willing to do what it takes.
Liam was a nice love interest, but I didn’t feel much for
him as a character. In fact, I wasn’t too interested in the Hales. They were
cool and all, but I much preferred Callie’s best friend, Justin. He was such a
nice guy! Slow, patient and always looking out for his best mate. I wouldn’t
have minded a friend like him ;)
As for the plot, there is a bit of Greek and Norse
mythology in there. The Stians were a new type of villain for me. They were
monsters who looked like people and claimed women, destroying them to harm
their Guardians. They formed a sort of clan with which they hope to take over
the world. It was up to the Hales and other Guardians (demigods) to stop that
from happening. I feel like Julie explained the situation very well and gave us
everything we’d need to know to understand, which was good.
To me the ending felt a little bit rushed, and I didn’t completely
understand what went done at the final battle, but afterwards we get a kind of
‘debriefing’ of sorts and that was helpful. Overall a pretty good book, and I
will hopefully be reading the next one in the series when it’s published.

Good review! I'm particularly interesting in the mix between Greek and Norse mythology because it is indeed a weird combination but I love them both separately and I'm pretty sure I would like them both together hahahaha
ReplyDeleteAnd if I had to be a demigod child.... I would like to have Poseidon as father simply because I love water and I want to control it. It's true I'm a bit scared of the ocean because it is huge and so deep but being a child of Poseidon would help ^^
Yes! I don't know much about Norse mythology (although I do know a bit more now) but I do love Greek mythology! Poseidon is one of my favourites. I think I would like to have Athena, a strong woman! Battle strategy and wisdom all the way!
DeleteNorse mythology is so interesting. I ended up taking a World Mythology class last semester and I absolutely loved it. The Norse are a lot different in regards to their beliefs. They actually were the ones to introduce the idea of angels, which they called Valkyries into religion. They believed that when Viking warriors died, they were carried from the battlefields by these Valkyries and into the gates of Asgard! (:

Yes! The idea of Vikings was definitely something new and I liked it. It would've been nice to have that reflected on the cover as well, though. It was an okay read :3

DeleteI've had this book on my TBR for a while now, but haven't gotten around to reading it. I love the idea of Vikings.. I've been watching this show called America, Unearthed, where the host tries to prove that various groups came to America before Columbus. He did a show on the Vikings and I've been dying to read more about them ever since! This sounds like something that I would totally love. Thank you for the review girl.. I'm definitely going to check this book out sooner than I would have. Muah!

DeleteYou did a great job of reviewing this. I always struggle with the books that I thought were just kind of okay, not awful but not amazing. This does seem interesting, but not so good that I'd want to buy it for myself.
