Synopsis: Thea, all-mighty Mother Earth, only had one
rule to follow above all else, one promise to keep to her brother: never take a
human form. She would’ve kept that promise if it weren’t for Brice. He’s
handsome and confident, but above all he’s merciless.
He’s also a
hunter who has tormented Thea for years. She believes if she could teach Brice
compassion, she might finally be able to save her creations and herself from
his savage ways. Then she meets Chamber: another hunter.
She soon finds
herself fascinated by−and torn between−the two boys: Brice and Chamber. Lost within
a torrent of human emotions, Thea starts to lose who she is as she falls in
love with the one thing that she’s always hated: a hunter… a human.
Review: Isn’t
that just a beautiful cover? I chose this book for that reason – and also
because I liked the idea of such a unique point of view.
I think the point of view was handled wonderfully. Seeing
things from the eyes of Mother Nature was interesting, especially as she took
human form for the first time and was exploring everything human. She quickly gets
wrapped up in human emotions, which is something she thought she’d be able to
distance herself from. And then we learn something else: her father is God.
I really liked seeing things from Thea’s point of view,
and she was my second favourite character. I half expected her to be the whiny
sort of person, especially as things she had previously planned weren’t going
according to her wants. But she didn’t turn out to be that person. There were a
few moments of confusion for her on the side as she figured out things about
being human, but otherwise she reviewed her situation and tried to make the
smartest choice, even though it didn’t always work out for her.
My favourite character was May. She’s the typical low cut
shirts, super short shorts girl who throws herself at Brice, and at first I
didn’t like her. But gradually her true self emerges and I was able to see her
for who she really was, and I liked her :3
This is the typical love triangle story and although
there is another plot line going as well (the main one) the love triangle is a
huge part of it. If you don’t like them, then this isn’t for you. I didn’t
really mind in this story because both relationships were different, and one
was more forced onto Thea than the other. It kind of made the love triangle one
that she wasn’t trying to be part of, and that made it seem less cliché.
The plot was… different? Kind of like the point of view
choice. It was a bit slow and took a while to get to the point, but once it did
I was surprised. A lot of things happened that I didn’t think was going to
happen at all, and it had me reading further to find out what was happening.
Overall this was a well written book, and the author was
definitely trying to do something new here. I liked it. :)

Nooooo!!!! You have a book with such an interesting plot and a huge part of it is just focus on the love triangle. Why? I'm just so done. I mean, love triangles are part of every or most YA apparently and I don't mind them as long as they are well executed and the main promise is not about that, know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, great review Olivia!
Yes, I understand the emotions! The love triangle does tie in nicely with the plot line, but it is a shame it was such a big thing in the novel.
DeleteAs always an amazing review Olivia! I might pick this up but only when I'm in the right mood since I know there's a love triangle, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Thanks Anna <3 I hope that when you are ready for it, you enjoy it!
DeleteThe whole Mother Nature aspect sounds so unique! Glad you liked it ,Olivia! And great review! :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is, which is why I enjoyed reading this so much. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous cover!
ReplyDeleteIt's a cool thing to see that Mother Nature is a part of this book. It's funny, we blame her for so much, but tacking her and characterizing her... I might have to give this book a chance just because of that. It's a shame about the love triangle, though. It's always a weird thing when they become a big part of the book instead of just a little thing on the side.

I thought it was such a unique idea and that was the main reason why I wanted to try this!
DeleteGreat cover! I think it's quite amazing, and I love your review. :D
ReplyDeleteI know! The cover is gorgeous <3
DeleteAh, this book sounds wonderful. I love the idea of a story written from the POV of Mother Earth.. how refreshingly original is that?! Although you only gave it three stars, I still added it to my TBR pile for that fact alone.
ReplyDeleteI was raised in a pagan household by grandparents that were from Ireland. I don't eat a lot of meat, although not for religious reasons. Just because I'm really picky and don't like it! haha But I remember dancing around a fire as a little girl, and nature hikes every weekend. I was taught to revere the Earth and everything that is in it. I still try to hike every weekend! How about you girl.. do you like spending time in nature? (:
Definitely refreshing. I hope you like it even more than I did! I love it when a story is original. Haha, that;s interesting! I know a few people who don't like meat, or even the smell of it... The nature hikes sound lovely <3
DeleteI do appreciate nature... I just have a very big fear of bugs, which makes things like camping and all that hard. Instead, I try to save energy as much as possible around the house, and I like cycling and walking instead of driving any day!
The cover is beautiful. It must be as difficult for someone with super-normal powers to adjust to being human as it would for humans to adjust to super powers.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. It's always hard to adjust to new things.
DeleteHi Olivia - It is a beautiful cover. I like the author's imagination. :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is a nice one :3 I am sure her imagination is very creative!
DeleteGreat review. I love the cover for this but the story doesn't seem for me. The love triangle plot will really bug me, I'm so not a fan of those.
ReplyDeleteThe cover is pretty nice ^^ I understand!
DeleteThat cover is everything :D It's beautiful! I'm not sure how to feel about love triangles these days, but I'm glad you enjoyed this book though!
