The film follows the plot of the book. Beatrice lives in a world which is split by factions based on different beliefs. When she takes a test that shows her she is Divergent, she learns she will never fit into just one faction. Four, a friend she quickly makes discovers a plot which is to erase the threat of Divergents. Can Tris and Four stop it in time?
What I really liked about the film was that it stuck to the book, which is what book-fanatics like me love! There were some scenes which weren't there, like the butterknife one and also the celebration of a certain death (I am trying not to give too much away for those who haven't read it yet!) but it did keep the most important things in there, and some small details too. I loved the clothing and the landscapes, I thought they were appropriate and detailed enough to satisfy me. I loved the use of camera angels... especially these three moments: when Beatrice's hair is being cut, when she is pulling on the brake from the zipline, and lastly a small moment when Tris leaves Toni's side in the tattoo shop and then reappears.

I loved Shailene Woodley's acting, I think she did a brilliant job in the role of Tris. When I first saw the cast choice I wasn't sure, but now, I definitely am. I liked Theo James acting as well. Some of my mates think he is super smexy but sadly I don't agree :( He is just okay as he is ^.^ (But Joseph Gordon-Levitt... now that's a different story >.>)
Anyways, I am looking forwards to going and seeing Insurgent when it comes! The film was directed by Neil Burger. The film runs for 139 minutes and is rated a 12. Many questions are comparing this to Catching Fire and I would say... Catching Fire was a better film! But Divergent sure does come close. Now go watch it :D

I really want to go and see this film but I feel like I should definitely read the book first! Will hopefully get on with it some point in the near future!
ReplyDeleteLovely review, actually quite excited to get into it now!
xx
You should! I hope you enjoy them :)
DeleteBrilliant review - I am going to watch it on Wednesday and I can't wait now :) heard so many good things about it.
ReplyDeletex
Glad you are looking forwards to it! Can't wait to hear your opinion :D
DeleteI am going to watch this next week. :) Though, imagination Four looks really different than the movie Four.
ReplyDeleteJoseph Gordon-Levitt <3
Great review, Olivia!
Yeah he looked really different from my imagination Four too. But yeah, I guess they can't capture everyone's opinions of him :P Yay another Joseph fan ^.^ hehe
DeleteGreat review! I saw Divergent and thought a lot of the sames things as you. It's been a while since I read the book but the movie seemed to follow the story pretty closely and seemed to do a good job explaining everything for people who hadn't read the book. Although, I was okay when they cut out a lot of the fighting within the initiation scenes because in the book, for me, that part went on a bit too long. I wasn't a fan of reading about the characters beating each other up over and over. But I can see how cutting it out for the film brought the intensity of initiation down. Otherwise, I too was happy with the acting and finally seeing the film sold me on Theo when nothing before that had. And I also agree, Catching Fire is still better! Nicely done! And thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteYeah it did do a good job, especially for those who haven't read it. I agree actually, I would've hated to have had the age rating above mine, but it did make initiation seem easier than it did in the movie.
DeleteI really loved this movie. I thought it was true to the book but was also a movie. If more violence had been included then the rating may have changed to something teens wouldn't be able to see. That would be sad.
ReplyDeleteThe very best part was watching Theo James bring Tobias to life. I could watch him all day long.
Great review. I'm glad you liked it overall.
I was super happy to see how well it did stick to the book :) Haha another Theo James fan :P
DeleteLol. I felt the exact opposite. If I hadn't read the books I think I would have liked the film more. I had literally just read the book and the things they changed were for me things that mattered. Also the guys playing Peter and Will were very similar in looks and I confused them a bit. My other gripe was that Tris is supposed to be small and delicate, totally petite and the actress playing her just isn't any of those things. She was great but it really spoilt it for me. Agree about the toned down violence though, they needed that to truly show how harsh the factions could be. And they put too much Jeanine in.
ReplyDeleteFunny how we view films so differently, everyone takes their own perceptions in.
Yeah Jeanine was in it too much I think. One thing they changed that I didn't realize while writing this was how Tris's mother died... which meant in the movie she didn't have a real reason for not shooting Will in the knee.
DeleteBut yeah, everyone has their own opinion and I find that so interesting :)
I might have to watch that movie soon. Almost as good as Catching Fire? Well, that is a big deal. Catching Fire is only the best movie of the century. xD
ReplyDeleteNever read the books... Maybe I should do that BEFORE I read them?
Timmy
Might? You mean you HAVE to watch it soon :D And Catching Fire was verrrrry good even if the books weren't so much... Yes, read books first!
DeleteBeen dying to see this for so long, I hope I love it as much as I love the book, and I hope nothing to drastic has been left out.
ReplyDeletewww.liannabell.blogspot.co.uk
It won't disappoint :D Nothing too big has been left out in my opinion except for one thing... but I didn't even notice until after I'd left the cinema!
DeleteOoooooo I really need to see it now!
ReplyDeleteThis expresses my feelings about the movie almost exactly! I agree so much about Peter and the butter knife, and just the gore in general. Peter especially just didn't come off as horrible as he was.
ReplyDeleteGreat review!
Yes! Good minds think alike, right? :D
DeleteI love to here that the movie mostly stuck to the book's plot and scenes. I need to see this one. I loved the books.
ReplyDeleteIf you liked the books then I'm pretty sure you'll like the movies too! :3
DeleteI think Divergent is better than Catching Fire lol
ReplyDeleteI think this because I think...which situation would I rather be in? Test simulations or a reality show that involves me fighting to the death? Hmm haha
Well.. If it were me in the case I would also prefer Divergent better, I think :P
DeleteThis is so true! I feel like a lot of the dystopian films take away the gore so they can market it to a broader audience, Hunger Games was guilty of that too! Great review :)
ReplyDeleteyes, it was actually. But for me, I think Hunger Games did it in a clever way since the gore was hinted at being there, just us not seeing it. Here they kind of cut it all out.
DeleteThis movie review is quite popular, it is a really good one, let alone the film your talking about. All my friends have seen it and I literally jumped for joy when you said it was a 12! You made a nice 'blurb' for the story, which is kind of like a summary, but basically is an introduction with a cliff-hanger, you know, something to get the readers excited. You included opinions, pros, cons and the cast, which are the main points. A good movie review should entertain, persuade and inform and I saw all of those in this review.
ReplyDeleteThank you sis <3 You should definitely watch this, after you read it of course. Maybe next year, when you're a little bit older ^^
