Books I Plan to Consume... I Mean Read [Fantasy Favourites Read-a-thon]

Hello everyone!

I'm here today to do my introductory and TBR post for the Fantasy Favourites Read-a-thon! If you still want to join in and sign up, you can do so here :D

Who are you?

Well, I'm Olivia-Savannah. Book crazy, nail polish obsessed and I believe you can never play too much basketball either.

Why are you joining the read-a-thon?

I AM sort of hosting it, so it would be rude to host and not really join in, no? As well as that, I love the fantasy genre like the next person, so of course I wouldn't miss a chance to read some good fantasy novels.

Which books do you intend to read?

Haha, I'm so over-ambitious. So I intend to start reading all of these, but I don't intend to finish them all.

Ruin & Rising - Leigh Bardugo
Winter - Marissa Meyer
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - J.K. Rowling
A Clash of Kings - George R.R. Martin

How many pages do you think you'll manage?

I still have school going on and I've chosen books which somehow manage to fit a lot of words on one page. So I'm hoping to read AT THE VERY LEAST 100 pages of each. Which means 400 pages in total, at the very least. Maybe I'll read more of one of them... and try to finish one. I don't know yet. *shrugs*

What's your favourite thing about the fantasy genre?

The creatures. Dragons, mermads and fae... among many more! I love mythical creatures and authors can be so creative in the ways in which they manipulate the qualities of those creatures to suit their novels. I love it.

Which fantasy books do you always recommend?

I'll never stop recommending the Lunar Chronicles. Day after day... they are wonderful.

If you could travel to any fantasy world, which one would it be? (I know it's hard, but try not to say Hogwarts)

I actually wouldn't have chosen Hogwarts so no worries there :D I would choose the world in the Percy Jackson series. I want to be a half-blood going on quests and chilling with other fellow half-bloods myself too!

Olivia's Question: What fantasy book would recommend to me?

  1. Great one Olivia. I have been seeing about your read- a-thon everywhere. I am not joining as a strict participant. But I will be reading The long way to a small and angry planet over IG over the couple of days. SO does that count? It is more of sci-fic

Also I havent read The Lunar chronicles yet *runs to hide before you throw something at me* . I should pick them up soon.

    1. I'm happy you've been seeing it everywhere because hopefully that means the word is getting out! But yes, that counts - and I hope you'll enjoy reading that one as well. Oooh, I won't throw something at you but you should try them ASAP!

  2. I love your TBR! The Lunar Chronicles are fantastic (I'm a little sad I didn't manage to read them before last year's read-a-thon when they were one of the featured series, but I'm happy I got around to it eventually!) and you can never go wrong with some Harry Potter. As you know, I'm also planning on starting the Grisha series, and I've recently decided I need to read Game of Thrones too, BUT THERE ARE ONLY SO MANY HOURS IN THE DAY HMPH.

  3. OMG The Lunar Chronicles is just fantasy gold! You have a seriously awesome TBR for this read-a-thon so I really hope you read as much of them as possible! I've never read Harry Potter but I hope to redeem myself by at least reading Percy Jackson :D Good luck!

  4. Hi, Olivia - You are an ambitious book consumer. :) I hope you get a chance to finish Winter by Marissa Meyer. It's on my list too, but I want to start at the beginning of that series. :)

  6. I have been hearing a lot about those Lunar Chronicles, so I must get those! And yay, you're continuing Harry Potter! When I first read TGOF, I couldn't put it down, I stayed up half the night to finish it (and since I was 14, that was a big deal ;) ). Fantasy I recommend... Well I secretly really enjoyed the Twilight books... ;)

    1. You really should because they're good! I'm hoping I will like TGOF just as much as you did. I love the Twilight series <3

  9. I've only read Cinder so far. >.< I had planned to keep up with the series when it first came out but that obviously didn't happen. I will have to pick it back up again.

    1. You should try to get further in the series! I hope you did manage to enjoy Cinder though!

  12. I LOVE YOUR SOCKS! My kids love superheroes, and I'm loving all the fun apparel and accessories for superhero fans.

I've never read the Lunar Chronicles, but everyone keeps talking about how amazing they are, so I've put them on my TBR. Maybe I'll get to read them someday. :)

  16. Dragons are definitely one of the best parts of fantasy books! And I can't believe I didn't even think of Camp Half-Blood. That's such a good choice, and it would be such a fun place to visit!

  19. Good luck with the readathon! You got yourself some pretty awesome books for the week although my least favourite was Ruin and Rising. It didn't live up to my expectations but I hope you love it! And I know picking Hogwarts is really hard because it's the most amazing place to be but Half-Blood Camp is also pretty awesome unless monsters are attacking. That is no fun LOL

    1. Awh, a shame you didn't love that one as much :( I hope I will still be able to enjoy it. Haha and yes, only when monsters aren't attacking :P

  20. Seriously, all of those are great picks!! I won't be able to join in the end though :'( I have a lot of things to get ready before (and after!) I move next month. But I can't wait to see how things go with your read-a-thon! :D I'm actually pretty excited to see what you have to say about these books, since I've either read them or have them on my TBR list :)

  23. Aah, good luck with your books, Olivia-Savannah! I haven't ever really done a reading marathon, at least not a planned one (more "you have a weekend, here are your bookish plans") because I've either had stuff on the particular week it's been hosted or I've had work/study, and whilst it seems like such a fun idea- I don't know if it'd work particularly well for my style of reading. And I don't think my puppy would enjoy me reading all day, either. Not for too extended a period of time. *snorts*

I hope you enjoy Goblet of Fire and Winter, the two from here that I've read. The next HP book you'll read is my favourite out of them all, but hopefully you don't *dislike* this one! And I hope you feel like Winter ties things up nicely. I have to say, Cress and Thorn (and Iko) weren't in it enough for my liking, but they have some pretty lovely moments. x

    1. Ah, read-a-thons don't work with everyone. One of the best things about hosting one is that I get to manage when it is a week I am free :D And of course, even in read-a-thons you still need to do other things as well! (Wouldn't want that puppy to be neglected of course!)

I'm looking forward to Winter. Wolf is my favourite character so I hope he's in it quite a bit <3

  24. Hey !
Dragons and faes are my favorite creatures in the fantasy genre too ! I love your Read-A-Thon, all those books sound amazing ( I, unfortunately, haven't read any of them although some of them are on my to-read shelf 🙂)
